How to Manage Yard/Wood Waste

York County residents can deliver yard waste (yard waste includes leaves, garden residues, shrubbery, tree trimmings, tree stumps (stumps must not exceed 12 inches in diameter) and similar matter, but does not include grass clippings) to the Resource Recovery Center.   This yard waste is then diverted to the Authority's Yard Waste Transfer Facility.  Please click here for updated information about the Yard Waste Transfer Facility.  Click here for directions to the Resource Recovery Center.

What do I do with Stumps larger than 12 inches in Diameter?  Modern Landfill in Windsor and Lower Windsor Townships and H&H in Spring Grove accept stumps larger than 12 inches in diameter.  Call for more info:

Modern Landfill: 717-246-2686

H&H: 717-225-4669

How do I manage Grass Clippings?  Best option: Use a mulching mower and let your grass clippings work for you.  Mulched grass provides moisture and nitrogen to keep your lawn looking great.  If you don’t have a mulching mower, low-cost conversion kits are available that fit most mowers.  Another idea: Place grass clippings on your vegetable garden or around your hedges.  Create a backyard compost bin. There are many varieties in stores or you can make a bin of your own.  Last Resort: Place grass clippings in your regular garbage or bring to the Resource Recovery Center (minimum $10 fee to bring grass to the Resource Recovery Center--see cost of disposal below).

To read more about the cost of disposal, click here.  Waste is accepted from residents Monday through Friday from 8:00AM until 4:00PM and on Saturday from 8:00AM until noon.  Payment may be made in cash or by check.  NOTE: Tree limbs and brush must not exceed 6 feet in length or 12 inches in diameter.

If you have questions, call the Authority at: 717-845-1066 or e-mail us at: webmaster@ycswa.com

Disposal alternatives:
