COMMUNITY SERVICES INTERN

The York County Solid Waste and Refuse Authority is pleased to announce the availability of a paid internship program within its Community Services Division.  The Authority is currently inviting candidates to submit resumes and writing samples for internship programs for the summer and fall semesters of 2010.

The internship is designed to offer flexibility and can accommodate a student seeking a minimum of 15 hours a week up to a maximum of 40 hours a week.  An hourly stipend will also be offered to the student.  The Authority does not provide for student housing.  This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in the areas of environmental communications and public relations to gain diverse hands-on experience in a small business setting.  Interested candidates should submit resume and writing samples to: Jen Cristofoletti, Community Services Specialist, York County Solid Waste Authority, 2700 Blackbridge Road, York, PA 17406.  Or via email to: j.cristofoletti@ycswa.com

About the York County Solid Waste Authority

Our Mission: facilitate responsible solid waste management.

The York County Solid Waste Authority (YCSWA) was established in 1971 by the York County board of commissioners.  The Authority uses an integrated system of waste management to manage York County's household waste that incorporates waste reduction, reuse, recycling and waste-to-energy.  As a municipal authority, the YCSWA operates as an entity separate from the county and is self-sufficient through its two revenue streams.  Those revenue streams include the cost for disposal of waste at the York County Resource Recovery Center and the sale of electricity generated by the Resource Recovery Center.  The Authority's annual operating budget is approximately $43 Million.

The YCSWA currently employs 23 people in four divisions: Engineering and Operations, Administrative, Recycling and Planning and Community Services.  The YCSWA owns the York County Resource Recovery Center, the now-closed York County Sanitary Landfill (which has been recycled into a recreation complex and wildlife habitat), a Yard Waste Transfer Facility, a Recycling Drop-off Center and an Education Center.
