COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION -- INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Title:   Community Services Intern

Reports to: Community Services Specialist within the Community Services Division

Credits: Credits determined by the school.  Can be taken as non-credit internship.

Hours: This position is offered as a minimum 15-hour/week position up to 40-hours per week.

Job Description:  

The internship position is an excellent opportunity for students interested in public relations, communications, journalism or other related disciplines .  Students will gain experience in both oral and written communications.  Ideally, the position will be filled by a junior or senior level student.  The individual must exhibit strong writing and verbal skills and will be asked to present current writing samples for review.  Scheduling for this position is flexible to accommodate classroom or other commitments.  Duties of the intern may require evening commitments.

This internship will enable a student to gain valuable experience in the area of community and public relations.  The student will have the opportunity to expand his or her portfolio with project literature completed during the semester.

It will be the responsibility of the intern to assist the Community Services Specialist with specific projects during the course of the assigned semester with some or all of the following:

*Assisting with planning and implementing special events.

*Writing media releases, ads and public service announcements.

*Assisting with the editing and production of an issue of the Authority's community newsletter.

*Assisting with the updating of brochures.

*Compiling and updating media packets.

*Participating in community speaking presentations.

*Assisting with communications efforts between the Authority and York County 's local government leaders.

*Assisting with developing and implementing educational programming for local school children.

*Assisting with the organization and implementation of an information resource library.

*Assisting other divisions of the Authority with the promotion of activities planned within those divisions.

*Assisting with any research necessary with regard to preparation of information materials or the development of educational programming.
